Dexter
Dub is a producer, remixer and DJ from Cologne and
his first longplayer is really opening a new dimension.
He takes his audience on a journey thru a world of
jungle, across Drum’n’Bass, Dubsounds
and smooth electrobeats, up to Dubstep. Dexter likes
to play with the well known conventions of genres,
but transforming them into his own style, which he
calls Dubbeat.
All tunes were produced in his own studio Nippes Home
Productions. Many of the instruments he played himself
and he has been voicing several vocals himself, what
stresses the live character of his album. Nevertheless
Dexter Dub is not working alone, but he got support
by AC Akut who played (not only) Didgeridoo and by
Chaliss Butto, Kindread and Ronny Trettmann on vocals.
The sound of his album starts off pretty friendly,
later more dark and driving. It’s pushing and
edgy, but rounded up with loungy and harmonic melodies.
Dexter Dub unites strange samples and extraordinary
instruments like Didgeridoo, Melodica or Organ. He
takes the listener to different short-trips to Jamaica,
Australia, Hungary and back to Cologne, his hometown,
with Cologne is On Fire being his special hommage
to the city he is living at.
In late summer of 2008 Dexter Dub already released
his first 12“ Single on vinyl. The A-side tune
Behold will be featured on the album too, but in a
new spezial album version. He stays with the independent
label Bsspräsidium Records and enriches their
caleidoscope of sounds with a new dimension.
Dexter Dub likes to stay open minded. He is influenced
by his experience of playing as a DJ, producing tracks
and being a vinyl-addict for more than 10 years by
now. He began as DJ I.R.S. ONE and was only focussed
on Hip Hop. His passion of collecting music (especially
vinyl) made him also familiar with genres like Beat,
Funk, Soul, Disco, Rare Groove, Electro, Big Beat,
Lounge, Reggae, Dancehall and music from the Balkan.
